An article unrelated to IT for a change.
I recently noticed water collecting under our Bosch wall-mounted gas water heater. After checking more carefully, I found that the pressure gauge had climbed past 3 into the red zone, which was probably why the unit had started releasing water automatically.
Bosch support guided me through one round of pressure relief over the phone, so I wrote the process down here for future reference.
After confirming that your heater layout and control knob positions match mine, the basic procedure is:
- Make sure the black knob underneath the heater is tightened by turning it to the right.
- Make sure both the red valve and blue valve are in the vertical position.
- For the two silver valves, tighten the left one by turning it left, and tighten the right one by turning it right.
- Turn on the hot water tap. At this point, no water should come out.
- Turn the black knob underneath the heater a few turns to the left. Water should begin flowing from the tap, and the pressure gauge needle should start moving left as the pressure is released.
- When the gauge drops to around
1.5, turn off the hot water tap. - Tighten the black knob again by turning it back to the right.
- Reopen the right-side silver valve by turning it left. The left silver valve can stay as it is.
- Pressure relief is complete.
If there is any uncertainty, calling Bosch support directly is still the safer choice. Use this at your own risk.
